With two magnificent New Year's Day concerts of Johann Strauss, comparable to those given in the biggest cities of Europe, Thessalonica gave a farewell performance for the year 2008 and welcomed the year 2009. The concerts, which were sold out, constituted a cosmopolitan but at the same time widespread fact for Thessalonica, as the prices of tickets were popular for all purses.
The concerts were given in the Music Hall of Thessalonica from Strauss Festival Orchestra, one of the leading orchestral totals of world, and Strauss Festival Ballet Ensemble. With the attendance of 65 musicians, soloist of high specifications, as soprano Elena Svedova, and the Conductor Sliven Simeonov, they combined famous marching songs, polkas and waltzes of Johann Strauss with exceptional choreographies of the ballet and dancing pairs, dressed with tuxedo and romantic dresses, mentally travelling us at the Viennese ball rooms of Franz Joseph and princess’s Sissy. Filled with the authentic music and dances of imperial Vienna of the 19th century, Thessalonica experienced an atmosphere that each year this season the bigger capitals in Europe live.
Concerts, that were given in the 27 & 28 December, found exciting correspondence in the public of Thessalonica that experienced thus a unprecedented life experience with the presence of all Town’s representatives (Minister N.G., the Mayor, the Governor etc). This infrequent experience of aesthetic enjoyment, was being supported economically, as the one held at the Music Hall last year, by BENDORA GROUP (constructors of complexes, imports - exports, alternative forms of energy etc) that tends to make this concert tradition every New Year’s time. BENDORA GROUP offered theincomings of the two concerts, to Saint Stylianos foundling hospital for its need, so as to enforce the children with more care, love and affection.
The organization of production and communication were undertaken by Intercom Communication and Shine Production, contributing irreproachably and effectively in the success of the concerts. In the end of the first concert a reception was held in great success, in the foyer of the Music Hall where famous people of the enterprising and political life of city attended it.
